19 May 2011. Kuma Garadayat: Members of the Nepalese special forces from UNAMID conducted a medical treatment campaign among the population in Kuma Garadayat, a village located in North Darfur controlled by members of SLA-Free Will faction, a signatory of the Darfur Peace Agreement (DPA). UN agencies OCHA, UNHCR and FAO participated in a new operation in Kuma Garadayat (North Darfur) conducted by UNAMID to secure access to remote, conflict-affected areas. Dubbed “Operation Spring Basket,” UNAMID along with the Office for Humanitarian Coordination and UN humanitarian agencies, are conducting a series of operations to assess and bring aid to areas which have been inaccessible due to conflict, for months if not years. While Darfur has fallen out of the headlines and cries of “Save Darfur” have stopped, the situation there remains dire.

This week, Act for Sudan sent a letter to Prime Minister Hamdok outlining our concerns for that nation. Violence and insecurity still plague the country and action needs to be taken now to stop it.

We need your help to prevent Sudan from spiraling into a situation, such as was experienced when genocide was perpetrated there. Will you help us? Here are some things you can do:

Action #1:

Post this message on facebook:

@actforsudan letter to @SudanPMHamdok: Genuine protection urgently needed in #Darfur. All Sudanese must experience significant, tangible & timely improvements to ensure the revolution succeeds. @statedept @AmbassadorPower actforsudan.org/2021/04/29/letter-prime-minister-hamdok/

(Remember to type “@” followed by the beginning of each tag and click on the page that pops up.)

Action #2:

Action 3:

Sign and share this petition to Prime Minister Handok, thanking him for the work he has already done but pushing him to do more. Violence, killings, and displacements persist. Action is urgently needed to stop the violence and prevent the deterioration of the country. The more people who join us, the more effective our actions will be.

Thank you for your support and help,

Eric Cohen, Act for Sudan
